A TentLab original – introducing the TentHat

"If you're cold, put on a hat."

TentHat is a hat for your MoonLight tent; a lightweight ripstop cozy that nicely covers the roof netting. It adds about 10F˚ (5C˚) of warmth to the tent and seals the roof against blowing sand and dust.

It's a great addition for those who camp early- or late-season or if you camp in sandy places.

TentHat clip through opening
TentHats attach by clipping the tent's clips through sewn holes in the TentHat.

The easiest way to navigate putting one on is to find a pointy corner - those go to the hub-clips at the bottom corner of the roof net. From there you go around the tent, unclipping the tent from the poles and putting the clip through the TentHat's holes that line up. Note that the seam binding goes down.

There are bunch of little toggles. The ones below the hubs are for pulling the TentHat snug (see photo above), The others, one at every hole, are for two reasons.
1) If you want to keep the TentHat on when you take the tent down, putting the toggles through the clips webs will help it stay in place
2) For any MoonLights since 2018 (I think) you can use the toggles to attach a TentHat inside by putting the toggles through the roof loops. So you can add the warmth of a TentHat later, after you've set up the tent. Inside, it's not a good seal against blowing sand but it's great for warmth (maybe even better than on the outside if you tuck the skirting inward because it creates a bigger dead air space than on the outside).

TentHats are made of the same breathable honey colored 20D triple-ripstop polyester as the upper tent bodies.

Designer-Me also want you to know that I originally tried to give MoonLights this function with a zippered ripstop panel but it worked poorly:
• It couldn't open as wide as the roof net
• It was surprisingly heavy because of the zipper
• If I put the panel on the inside - like I think everyone would want - it could fill with sand and whoa be to anyone who unzipped it unaware…
